Sitting All Day is Not Healthy

I recently did a three-day virtual fitness and business summit where I was sitting down listening to talks, writing away, but I have never felt so crappy.

My job is active and I am moving all the time, sitting for countless hours was torture. My neck hurt, my hips were tight, and my low back was killing me. I had an epiphany in that moment that this is what most peoples’ lives consist of and I was astonished.

This is not healthy or good for your bodies you have to get up and move, move, move! Sitting for too long can increase your risks of chronic health problems, such as heart disease, diabetes, and it can be bad for your mental health.

Along with mobility and stretching exercises for your body here are some easy ways to be active at work, indoors, and at home:

  • If you are at work take the stairs not the elevator, walk over and talk to your coworkers instead of calling them or emailing, and take your lunch break away from your desk and enjoy a short walk if you can.

  • If the weather is crappy outside do not let that derail you from being active.

  • Come take a group class at Turn Cardio Jam Studio, or do some body weight exercises such as squats, sit ups, or lunges.

  • If you’re at home walk around while you are on the phone, set a timer to remind you to stop watching tv and get up and move.

I could go on but you guys can see there are plenty of ways to work in time to keep yourselves moving. Don’t give me any of this I do not have time I have to do x,y,z. Make your health a priority and take care of yourselves. You body and mind will thank you.
